Why Strength and Balance Matters
As we get older, it is natural to experience changes in muscle strength, balance and mobility. These changes can affect confidence, independence and increase the risk of falls.
UK research shows that regular strength and balance exercise can reduce falls risk by up to 54%, helping you stay active and independent.
Current UK guidelines recommend that older adults undertake activities to improve strength at least twice a week, alongside regular physical activity and balance-focused exercise.
The benefits include:
✔ Improved strength and mobility
✔ Better balance and coordination
✔ Reduced risk of falls and injury
✔ Increased confidence with everyday activities
✔ Improved bone health
✔ Greater independence and quality of life
It is never too late to benefit from exercise, and even small improvements in strength and balance can have a meaningful impact on long-term health and wellbeing.
